Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt has thanked his well wishers for their support to him after he was found guilty under the Arms Act for possessing weapons illegally in the 1993 blasts case but has appealed to them to withdraw their signature campaign.

On Wednesday, Bollywood had decided to launch a signature campaign on December 12 to express their support to Sanjay Dutt

"This is the only place I know, the movie industry. I was born into it and I have grown up in it. For me this film industry has always been the family I have known and been nurtured by. I was raised here. I have always been the son for many and a brother to many more. And I will never forget the fact that my fraternity has always supported me," he said at a press conference.

"Even after my life support system - my father passed away, leaving me shattered - the industry never let me feel that my sisters and I were orphaned. In fact, dad's untimely demise again showed my sisters and me that we could always count on the film fraternity for their love and support," Dutt added.

He said he was moved - but not surprised - when the industry decided to sign a petition letter in his support.

"It brought tears to my eyes and emotionally moved my sisters and me, especially since none of the Dutt family members were told of this. We were kept totally in the dark about this campaign. My sisters and I have been taken aback at this magnanimous gesture. I'm sure dad would have been moved as much. I'm sure he's up there, smiling and looking out for me - like he's always done," said the actor.

The signature campaign would be just for a day at the Film City in suburban Goregaon, where members of film industry in various cadres - spot boys to actors, producers and directors - "will come together to show their support to Sanjay whom they all love", film producer and President of Association of Motion Pictures and TV Programme Producers, Pahlaj Nihalani had said.

However, while 'humbly thanking everyone', Sanjay Dutt requested them not to go ahead with the signature campaign on December 12.

"For me, the knowledge that members of my film family are there to support me and pray for me is motivation and blessing enough," he said.

"The rest is in God's great hands. Like I have always said, and I repeat again, I have full faith in our Indian judiciary; the law will take it's own course. Just Pray for me," he said.
