Nine-year-old Darsheel Safary is rocking. He's drawn rave reviews for his heartbreaking performance in Taare Zameen Par.
Nautanki
He switches from the playful to the all-attentive mode, as he says, "Aamir Uncle thinks I am a nautanki. Maybe I am. But he is my cheater teacher. I learnt how to cheat in the game of Uno from him," he laughs, hanging on to a curtain. He wants to climb a wall a la Spiderman.
Danger zone
Spotted by writer and creative director Amol Gupte at the Shiamak Davar Dance School, he says his biggest kick was "working with Aamir uncle and that too with perfection." Wisely, he asks, "Perfection.. doesn't it sound like a big big word? We had to be perfect."
What about Kiran Rao? "Oh, she was Aunty Khatra. Very strict." Darsheel says Aamir taught him "the difference between two kinds of tear bananewalla glycerines" and how to sway his hands.
Darsheel even improvised. He gloats, "I was supposed to frown. Aamir Uncle was confused about the right expression. I said, ‘Aisa karenge, yeh mera apna expression hai.' And he said fine." Touche.

"I took over as director because I was very concerned about the child. With a new director, there would have been a delay of six to eight months. And the child would have grown up. I was happy with the choice of Darsheel. So I stepped in."
