Indian beauty queen-turned actress Sushmita Sen has fired most of her staff after discovering they were stealing from her, a newspaper reported Tuesday.
Sen, 31, recently fired eight employees including her driver, the Times of India said. Sen told the paper that her employees had stolen money and brought strangers into her home.
"Over the past decade I never questioned any of my staff. People I trusted blindly have let me down," Sen told the newspaper. "My home was no longer safe for me and my child," she added.
Sen — who lives in Mumbai, India's entertainment capital — gave no further details on the incidents that led to the reported mass firing, and police in the city said no charges have been filed.
Sen was crowned Miss India in 1994, and went on to win the Miss Universe pageant the same year. She has since acted in nearly 30 Hindi-language films.
n 2000, she adopted a baby girl, an unusual move for an unmarried Indian woman.
