Sometime back there was the news that most popular actress of 80s and 90s Sumalatha is making a return to the Malayalam film industry after a long gap. She was supposed to star in ‘Calendar’ directed by debutant Mahesh. In this Prithviraj starrer, Sumalatha was supposed to play a vital role as actress Navya’s mother. But now she is no more a part of the film owing to her political commitments. She is involved in political campaign by her husband politician-turned-Kannada superstar Ambareesh for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka.
Following this director Mahesh had approached another popular South Indian actress Mohini for the same role. But she did not accept the offer. Actress Sita was approached next but she too refused the role due to the tight schedule. Reports are that noted Malayalam and Tamil actress Rohini would now be seen in the film. Her character in the film is of Thangam George, a widowed professor who lives for her only daughter Kochu Rani ( Navya Nair). Rohini who has been in the industry for 23 years now has signed the role of a widow for the first time. In 2007 she did ‘Rock n Roll’ and also had an important role in ‘Thalappavu’ (2008).
Calendar’ is a hilarious comedy with Prithviraj in the role of as Sojashan Olikkara. Mukesh, Jagadeesh, Jagathy Sreekumar, Vijayaraghavan, Mallika Sukumaran and Sooraj Venjaranmoodu are in the supporting cast. Babu Janardhanan pens the script.
