Bollywood ace photographer Subi Samuel's first film "Alag", releasing Friday, is very different from other Hindi films as the title suggests.

The film has new actor Akshay Kapoor in the main lead. Samuel, who has produced the film, has chosen a thought-provoking subject, which also highlights how unsympathetic society can be towards people who are physically and mentally different.

The story goes like this:

Hemant Rastogi (played by Yatin Karyekar) has a cardiac arrest and dies. The police take over the house only to find that the house and the family that lived there are odd, to say the least! Neighbours know very little about them but tell police that they have seen someone moving around the house at night.

But no one can say for sure that there is anybody else living in the house.

However, police soon find out that there is another person staying in the house - Hemant's son Tejas (Akshay Kapoor), who is an unusual boy with unique qualities.

Though his father never allowed him to go out, his sudden death forces the 18-year-old boy to face the world, which is not ready to accept him.

Enters Purva Rana (Dia Mirza) - she runs an institution for orphans and for youngsters who have committed petty crimes. Purva willingly comes forth to help Tejas, but one look at him and she knows that she has not seen anyone like him before. He not only looks different but acts differently too.

Eventually, with Purva's help Tejas steps out of the house and for the first time in 18 years sees the world, which he had read about in books.

But Tejas soon realises that he is not like other people and the world is not like what he had imagined it to be. It is not black or white - it has more shades of grey.

On the other hand, Purva discovers that Tejas is a person who is specially gifted with powers that mankind has never seen or heard of. At every juncture Tejas surprises her.

What makes Tejas different? How does he possess powers that any ordinary person would only dream of? How does he fit into a world like ours?

Made under the banner of Subi Samuel Movies Pvt Ltd, the film is directed by Ashu Trikha. It also stars Jayant Kripalani, Mukesh Tiwari, Sharad Saxena, Beena and Tom Alter.

Subi has roped in top Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan, Sushmita Sen, Preity Zinta , Arjun Rampal and others for the theme song, which is being shown on every channel these days.

Story writer Tagore Almeda's script definitely boasts of creativeness and good imagination, but it has to be seen how the audience takes to it.
