Bollywood personality Simi Garewal, known these days for her cloying interviews with guests on her celebrity television show, says she plans to return to acting.
Garewal acted in numerous Bollywood movies from the 1960s until the 1980s, but in recent years has become known to a new generation of Indians as the host of a weekly celebrity talk show, "Rendevous with Simi Garewal,'' who always wears white.
In fact, her heavily affected manner has even inspired a weekly spoof that runs each Sunday at the same time as her show.
Garewal says she's never seen the satire, and her friends say it's not funny.
Despite her current popular image - or perhaps because of it - Garewal now says she's planning to take another stab at acting and is likely to play a role in a movie directed by noted Bollywood filmmaker Revathy Menon.
"Very few films have given me any lasting satisfaction as an actress,'' Garewal was quoted as saying in the Mumbai Mirror newspaper in an interview published Friday.
While sugary romances filled with song-and-dance numbers still dominate Bollywood, the industry has increasingly taken on more serious subjects - a development that appears not to have escaped Garewal's notice.
"It feels like the right time as there is such a wide variety to films and roles to choose from,'' she was quoted as saying. Garewal didn't give details about the new movie but said shooting could begin at year-end
