Kangana Ranaut and Barbara Mori have been signed opposite Hrithik Roshan in Anurag Basu's next. Penelope Cruz, who was being considered for the female lead, was found unsuitable for the role

Hrithik Roshan is the flavour of the season. Papa Roshan's hunt for a lead actress to star opposite son Hrithik in Anurag Basu's love triangle, had taken him and Basu to Los Angeles to woo Penelope Cruz. Apparently Cruz, who looks slightly older than Hrithik, was dropped from the project and Hollywood Latino actress Barbara Mori was chosen instead. Back home, they zeroed down on Kangana Ranaut.

A source close to the Roshans says, "The Roshans and Anurag Basu were looking for someone with a truly international look, but of Indian origin. Since the character in question is a dancer, she must be proficient in Latin-American dance forms like salsa. They have finally zeroed down on Kangana Ranaut and Barbara Mori."
The big budget film will be mostly shot in foreign locales and will have dialogues both in English and Hindi. Adds the source, "The film is an intense love story with a lot of dancing involved. Hrithik will be donning his dancing shoes for the film."
Director Basu has left no stone unturned to get the lady of his choice to star opposite Hrithik. Penelope Cruz who was being considered for the role was finally voted out as she supposedly looked older than Hrithik. Model Brunah Abdullah had also been auditioned for the role but was not found suitable enough. Basu went all the way to Los Angeles for a week to meet some potential actresses and has recently returned after a successful casting session.
This explains Anurag's dinner with Kangana at a suburban five-star hotel two days ago. When quizzed whether her meeting with Basu was about his next film, Kangana was taken by surprise. She says, "Who told you about this? Yes, I have signed the film opposite Hrithik. However, I can't talk about it as it's too early to divulge details."
When contacted, Rakesh Roshan did not deny the news but said, "We need ten days to give you confirmation on the actresses." When asked about Penelope Cruz, he said, "We had three to four Hollywood actresses in mind and even had talks with their agents. However, dates were a problem with most of them and we needed someone who would be able to fit into our schedule. I will give you all the details in a few days after we have worked everything out." Basu remained unavailable for comment. It must be the jet lag.
