Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty is all set to showcase her talents on an international stage in the Broadway musical that she has agreed to do after her success with UK-based reality TV show Big Brother.
Designing Shilpa’s costumes will be none other than ace designer Neeta Lulla. Confirming the news, a source close to the actress said, "It is true that Shilpa has approached Neeta to design the costumes for the show. Shilpa has revealed that the musical is going to have her represent Indian culture and tradition, so most of the costumes are going to be based on Indian designs. The costumes will have heavy art work over them and the colours used will be vibrant and energetic!"
The word on the grapevine was that the musical was to be launched by the end of this year.
Shilpa’s official publicist Dale Bhagwagar confirmed and added, "The musical starring Shilpa will first be staged in the UK. It is after a successful stint there that Shilpa plans to target the US and Europe."
Dale added, "The reason Shilpa has agreed to do the musical was because she wants foreigners to get familiar with the Indian culture there. Here I wish to also clarify that Shilpa has no intention to settle in the UK. That is certainly not in her list of priorities right now."
When asked if she had received offers to act from the British film industry, Dale replied, "Yes, there are two offers in the pipeline but they are still under consideration. At the moment it is the Broadway musical that Shilpa is focused on."
He continued, "Shilpa always wanted to perform in front of a live audience. Not that she has not done that before. She has performed live at stage shows that she has done abroad. But here she was getting a chance to be in a Broadway musical and the experience of this kind of a live performance was going to be entirely different from the stage shows that she had done before. It is the thrill of performing in front of people of varied cultures that had her all charged up."
