How I wish I could give a fun interview – answer questions I’ve never been asked before,” begins Minissha Lamba.
Maybe she could tell us what to ask her, then. She laughs at this, saying, “There’s one question that gives me palpitations – when they ask, ‘ aap apne kirdaar ke bare mein kuch batayie’ , I know I can say anything from ‘I play a Martian’, to ‘I am a dragon’, and it wouldn’t make a difference. Because while I am saying my piece, they’re thinking about what to ask next. And that means they don’t know me from Adam,” she says. “Why blame me then, if I give brain-dead answers?”
What she loves, though, are candid chats, similar to the ones she has with her friends all the time. “We talk about men, the world at large, movies, the film industry, life...” says Minissha, asking in the same vein, “Why can’t interviews be like that?” But would she be as open with us, as she is with her friends, were we to ask her questions on any of the above? “Try me,” she says.
Okay, the industry gossip is that she recently turned down a Rs 50 lakh item number offer. Is that true? “Yes, it is. I had an issue with the way it had been conceptualised. I have never done anything for money alone – I don’t even endorse products I don’t believe in. Plus, I think item numbers are a bit derogatory to women.” True to her words, the lady has been candid.
“Also, an item number fame is not what I am looking for in my career. I want to do good work, stay in the industry for a long time. I don’t ever want to read a script and decline to do it because I think I don’t fit into the role. It’s the job of a versatile actor to be able to fit into every role,” says Minissha. Anyone who doesn’t agree with that, now?
