The minister for Endowments J Ratnakar Rao and another minister Pinnamaneni visited the Kanakadurga temple at Indrakeeladri purportedly to enquire into the incident that led to the death of six devotees. Far from showing any regret for the deaths and leaving even minimum courtesy to the winds, the ministers showed more interest in offering puja and receiving the honours bestowed upon them by the temple authorities and taking part in temple rituals.
They were welcomed with full temple honours and the temple authorities went overboard to serve them. The shameless display of sycophancy by the temple authorities when they should actually be expressing some regret over the unfortunate deaths came as a shock to many pilgrims. There was no trace of shame or remorse on their faces over the death of six people. The ministers accepted the huge garlands and the silk shawls offered to them and left the temple ‘fully satisfied’.
