Harmonix has confirmed a sequel to the popular play-along music game "Rock Band"; it will feature a new range of instruments, online modes, and songs.
"Rock Band 2" promises the best set list ever in a music game. It will allow players import their previously-purchased "Rock Band" tunes, eliminating the need to re-purchase or re-download these songs.
Similar to Activision's recently announced "Guitar Hero World Tour", "Rock Band 2" too will feature most master recordings. The game will feature a play list of over 80 songs by a majority of female-fronted bands as also artists who've never contributed tunes to a music game.
In addition to all the "Rock Band" instruments along with many from the rival "Guitar Hero" franchise, "Rock Band 2" will also be compatible with a posse of new instruments like a sturdier drum kit for one and a Fender Stratocaster reproduction guitar lined with faux wood-grain buttons.
"Rock Band 2" will first be available on Microsoft's Xbox 360 in September 2008, followed by on Sony's PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2 as well as Nintendo's Wii later this year. Further details will be revealed at the upcoming E3 Media and Business Summit next month.
