Youth wings of both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress are protesting against the screening of Priyanka Chopra starrer "Krrish" in Madhya Pradesh's Indore city due to the actress' alleged underworld links.
Activists of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and the Youth Congress staged demonstrations Friday night and Saturday afternoon and tried to disrupt the screening of the film.
"The protesters gathered at all the four cinema halls ( Astha , Sapna, Sangeeta and Madhumilan) and burnt posters of Priyanka and shouted slogans against her," Arvind Tiwari, city superintendent of police told on telephone.
The police arrested about 100 activists to prevent possible tensions, he added.
RR Pathak, the PRO of Krrish said "The controversies between Priyanka Chopra and Prakash Jaju are in no way related to the film Krrish.
The film is being screened peacefully at all theatres of Indore, but police protection has been provided at two theatres after the theatre owners felt threatened by the protestors."
Underworld don Chhota Shakeel, allegedly at the behest of Priyanka's father Ashok Chopra, had allegedly threatened his daughter's former secretary Prakash Jaju, a resident of Indore, over money the actress owed to Jaju.
Says Jaju, "Protestors in Indore are not agitated against Krrish, they do not even want to stop the screening of the film. They just want Priyanka Chopra and her father to go to the police station and confess about their underworld links".
Jaju who is in Indore right now for the hearing in High Court on 28 June boasts of having full support from the BJP and the Congress in Madhya Pradesh. But he is not to happy with the idea of Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh supporting Priyanka
He alleges, "I know why Vilasrao is supporting Priyanka , so that his son Riteish Deshmukh's career is not hampered in any way and if in the future he gets to sign a film with Priyanka he can have all chances to become a star."
Priyanka's father had also lodged a complaint with a police station in Mumbai alleging that Jaju was threatening him and his daughter.
Jaju had also lodged a counter complaint with the police in Indore, saying the underworld don had threatened to kill him if he demanded the payment from Priyanka
Jaju claimed that Priyanka owed him Rs.13.7 million.
"A month after winning the 'Miss World' title, Priyanka signed an agreement, which entailed a payment of 10 percent of the amount for every movie, stage show and advertisement," Jaju said.
He added that it was he who got the actress roles in movies like "Hero", "Andaaz", "Kismat", "Asambhav", "Black Mail" and "Mujhse Shaadi Karogi".
Jaju had allegedly filed a suit against Priyanka for the recovery of his money in a Mumbai court in 2004.
