 The prestigious Panambilly Prathibha Puraskaram, instituted by Samskara Sahithi, a cultural wing of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), will be presented to Malayalam superstar Mohanlal on 26th November by Union Defense Minister A.K. Antony in a function to be held at the Karthika Thirunal Theatre, Thiruvananthapuram. Mohanlal was selected for his overall contribution to Malayalam cinema over the years. Announcing the award, state Congress president Ramesh Chennithala said that Mohanlal was selected by a three member jury headed by George Onakkur. The award consists of 50,000 rupees. a citation and a memento designed by Prof. Naryanapillai. Poet Sugathakumari was the first winner of the award.

Said Mohanlal: “For me ICH brings back good memories of my college days in Thiruvananthapuram in the late 70’s, when all of us (Priyadarsan, Suresh Kumar, M.G Sreekumar and others) used to hang around in ICH, which was at Spencer Junction and have more Tabu-scared-of-Mohanlal!  Tabu is not scared of any Tamil actor, but she is scared of Mohanlal! This is her way of complimenting Mohanlal - also her reason for not acting in regional films. Tabu has acted with Mohanlal in 'Kaala Paani' directed by Priyadarshan. She recalls her feelings when working on the film. "I was really scared. My co-actor Mohanlal had already won 3 national awards for acting. Director Priyadarshan had already made more than 50 successful films. Everyone knows about cinematographer Santosh Sivan. He has won awards more Mohanlal-in-Alexander-the-Great Alexander the Great is the upcoming Malayalam film with superstar Mohanlal in the lead. The film, to be directed by Murali Nagavalli (who made his debut as an independent director with Mohanlal starrer Wanted in 2004), is likely to start rolling by February 2009. According to the director, Alexander the Great is not a historical film, but a comical racy entertainer in which Mohanlal will play Alexander, a man with diverse qualities, while Siddique, Jagathy Sreekumar and Innocent will appear in key roles.
