Ashvin Kumar's Little Terrorist made headlines when it was nominated for the Oscars in the Best Live Action Short Film category in 2005.

And now the filmmaker's back with a feature film that’s diametrically different.

It’s a film that will make most animal lovers sit up and take notice. The Forest is a film about human frailty when confronted by the forces of nature from the Little Terrorist.

The film takes off with a young married couple going on vacation in the hope of forestalling divorce but are so preoccupied with their anger that they ignore signs of a man-eating leopard on the prowl.

"There are laws of society and nature. This is a film where both are violated. There's also a love triangle,” says Ashvin Kumar.

Starring Nandana Sen, Ankur Vikal and Javed Jaffery, The Forest, an Indo-US-UK co-production, was shot with an international crew.

Shot in India and Thailand, the film is Kumar’s maiden attempt at trying to get into the commercial side of filmmaking.

"I know the film will do well in multiplexes. I want it to do well in smaller towns and villages. I want a distributor who says yes,” says Kumar.

Up next for the filmmaker is a big-budget film set in Kashmir where he plans to rope in the biggies of Bollywood.

He's also planning a comedy which will see him make his acting debut.
