The juries for the Indian Panorama section of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2007, today recommended 21 feature and 15 non-feature films for screening during the mega film event to open in the city on November 23, with Malayalam film ‘Ore Kadal’, directed by Shyamaprasad, being the inaugural film in the feature film category in this section and ‘Bagher Bacha’ (Bengali) directed by Bishnu Dev Halder to open the non-feature category of the Indian Panorama section. The selections were made out of 119 feature and 149 non-feature films.
The two jury groups for feature and non-feature films headed by renowned film makers, K S Sethumadhavan and Arun Khopkar, respectively submitted their reports to the secretary, ministry of information and broadcasting, Ms Asha Swarup, earlier in the day.
The highest number of four entries in feature film category, in Indian Panorama section are from Marathi cinema (‘Tingya’, ‘Mai Baap’, ‘Aevdhe se Aabhaal’ and ‘Kaalchakra’), followed by three each from Malayalam and Bengali cinema, two entries from Tamil cinema and one each from Assamese and Manipuri cinema. The Bollywood would be represented in Indian Panorama by ‘Dharm’ directed by Bhavna Talwar and ‘Gafla’ directed by Sameer Hanchate.
The non-feature film category, in Indian Panorama section include productions like ‘Naushad Ali, ‘The melody continues’ (Hindi) by Buddhadeb Dasgupta, ‘Pt Ramnarayan’ (Hindi) by V Packriswamy, ‘Hope dies last in war’ (English) by Supriyo Sen, ‘Masti bhara hai sama’ (Hindi) by Ashok Rane, ‘The dance of the enchantress’ (Malayalam) by Adoor Gopalakrishnan, and ‘Mubarak Begum’ (Hindi) by Bipin Choubal.
The members of the feature film jury were Manju Borah, film maker from Guwahati, Leslie Carvalho, film maker from Bangalore, Abhijeet Dasgupta, film maker from Kolkata, Dr Mrunalinni Patil Dayal, film maker from Mumbai and Ms Shubhra Gupta, a film critic from Delhi.
The non-feature film jury comprised of Pankaj Butalia, film maker from Delhi, Kavita Chaudhary, film maker from Mumbai and Gautam Saikia, film maker from Guwahati.
Meanwhile, Lenin Rajendran’s ‘Ratri Mazha’ (Night Rain - Malayalam) and Samir Chanda’s ‘Ek Nadir Galpo’ (Bengali) will represent the country in the Asian, African and Latin American Competition during IFFI 2007.
