The Mecca Masjid reverberated with two powerful bomb blasts on Friday afternoon. A total of 10 people were killed in the blasts and over 50 injured, some of them are in a critical condition at the Osmania hospital.
The two bomb blast took place during the Friday Namaz at the historic Mosque near Charminar in Hyderabad. The devout ran out of the mosque on hearing the bomb blasts. The bomb blasts are reported to have been triggered by a cell phone. Two more Tiffin carrier bombs were defused by the police.
The scene outside the mosque was chaotic,. Huge crowd gathered on the streets and started pelting stones and went on a rampage damaging shops, buses and looting some shops. The police opened fire to quell the mob and 5 people were reportedly killed in the police firing.
All the major establishments in the old city including shops and banks downed their shutters. The army has reportedly been called to stop the looting and arson from escalating. It is not yet clear as to who is behind the dastardly act. The home minister ands the top police officials are monitoring the situation closely.
