The mega retail chains are now looking for a new profit source. The retail chain groups like Reliance and ITC have started scouting for procuring Bananas directly from the farmers.
They are scouting for suitable deals with farmers in and around places like Kurnool, Mahanandi and Gopavaram. The places in around Mahamandi have about 50,000 acres of land under Banana cultivation. The corporates are reportedly keen to enter into long term lease agreements with farmers. A good crop would fetch the farmer around 70,000 rupees a year.
