Which of the two actors will play the Bhojpuri Gabbar Singh?
While Ram Gopal Verma has the mighty Bachchan playing Gabbar in his adaptation of Sholay, the little-known director Mahesh Pande has his own plans for the Bhojpuri version of Sholay that has been christened Gabbar Singh.
While Bhojpuri superstar Ravi Kishen will play either Jai or Veeru (the choice is his!) Nana Patekar and Mithun Chakraborty are under consideration for the title role of Gabbar Singh.
A source says, "Both Nana and Mithun have been approached, though neither has said 'yes' yet. They're obviously afraid of being unfavourably compared with both Amjad Khan and Amitabh Bachchan. But the makers are keen to sign on Nana or Mithun because the Bhojpuri Gabbar is conceived as a wild, untameable creature who lives in a banyan tree. He's almost like a dangerous animal. Nana and Mithun have that panther-like quality about them."
Incidentally, Ekta Kapoor is a huge Ram Gopal Verma fan. Company and Bhoot are among her favourite films. The decision to do a Bhojpuri Sholay has a subconscious connection with Ramu's endeavour to re-make the Ramesh Sippy classic.
