The UPA government led by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh won the trust vote this evening. The government was widely expected to win the trust vote and it did not come as a big surprise to anyone.

The margin of victory, 19 votes, 275 in favour and only 256 against, has come as a surprise to even the congressmen. All along, it was felt that the vote would be very close and even could go either way.

The vote was preceded by a display of vociferous protest by the NDA allies. Two BJP MPs alleged that they were approached by some one from the Samajwadi Party and were offered cash to abstain from voting.
The MPs waved the bundles of cash in front of the cameras and deposited it with the Speaker Somnath Chatterjee.
