The noted author Taslima Nasreen faced an embarrassing situation when a group of activists lead by none other than three MIM legislators went on a rampage and attacked her. She was in the city to launch the translated version of her books.
The MIM leaders barged into the press club and created havoc. The policemen along with the help of the media personnel however managed to whisk her away to safety. She was later taken to the airport and was put on a flight to Kolkata. The incident came as a shock. The MIM were protesting against her novel Lajja and other stories, which they claim, are anti-Islam.
The real reason however is that the MIM is facing tough competition from the communists in the old city. While the MIM is slowly losing ground, the communists are making inroads in the MI strongholds. The MIM thinks that by attacking Taslima who is being backed by the left parties, they can convince the minority voters that they are the only champions of the community and are upholding the religion.
