We have been hearing about this for a while, but it finally seems somewhat official now. The news is that the Khan Brothers, Salman, Arbaaz and Sohail will recreate the magic of the Seventies blockbuster Amar Akbar Anthony in a remake to be directed by none other than David Dhawan.

The comic caper about three brothers who have been separated during their childhood, had been directed by the late Manmohan Desai. Given that David too has that rare flair for comedy, one can't help but wonder if he can duplicate the Manmohan Desai touch. Amar Akbar Anthony is one of those films which features in everybody's list of 'my favourite films', hence it would be quite a disaster if the remake did not carry the same punch as the original. The plan is to have Salman play the role of Anthony, Arbaaz that of Amar, with Sohail to play Akbar. Katrina Kaif's name is being thrown around to play the role made famous by the late Parveen Babi.

The original Amar Akbar Anthony were Vinod Khanna, Rishi Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan, and each of the three actors has done such an excellent job of etching their characters in the film that they will be a very tough act to follow. The task will be made even more ardous by the fact that neither Arbaaz or Sohail are really known for their acting skills. Neither is Salman for that matter, but he at least has stardom on his side. So it will be interesting to see how David remakes this film. One is sure that he has learnt something from that other great remake, Ram Gopal Verma Ki Aag.

    David-Dhawan-joins-remake-trail-with-Amar-Akbar-Anthony

It is raining remakes and sequels in Bollywood -- after Farhan Akhtar with "Don", David Dhawan takes the plunge with "Amar Akbar Anthony".

He has roped in Salman, Arbaaz and Sohail Khan in the roles of Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna and Rishi Kapoor respectively, reports Bollywood Trade.

Remaking cult films is a daunting task as they are subject to inevitable comparisons. It sure takes a lot to remake a cult film, especially if it happens to be an Amitabh film.

"I am okay with the concept of remakes. Remaking a film is tough though the idea behind it is not essentially to better the original film. I mean there are certain things that can be enhanced in terms of styling, visual effects, music, etc. while cert more

Veteran actor Vinod Khanna is back to the grind and is gung ho about his forthcoming film "Risk", a thriller with a family backdrop.

"I'm glad I got a chance to essay a variety of roles in my career. I am working after a very long time and my role in 'Risk' is very challenging. I guess today there aren't many roles written for people of our age group. Hopefully, if I get good meaty roles, I am even ready to take up a negative role. It has to be challenging enough to motivate me."

Vinod is a very contented person in real life, reports Bollywood Trade.
