It was conceived as a tribute to the original showman of Indian cinema Raj Kapoor and what better than have his granddaughter Karisma to host the segment? Apparently Zee TV thought so as well and approached Lolo to host a special film festival on Raj Kapoor called ‘The Showman Show’.
While Karisma was willing to take up the offer, apparently the price she quoted to do it was astronomical by television standards.
“Karisma asked for Rs 15 lakh a day to shoot three episodes within that time while the channel was willing to pay her only one-fifth of that amount,” says a source. Which works out to Rs 3 lakh a day. But apparently the money proved to be a major stumbling block and Karisma Kapoor finally did not become part of the show.

However, Ramesh Sharma of Moving Picture Company which is producing the segment, denied having any knowledge about the discussions. “I have no idea about such talks. We just produce and package a show. The host and celebrity are fixed by the channel,” he said. While Karisma herself could not be contacted for her comment, her secretary denied any talks between her and the channel.
Later Kunal Kohli was roped in to host the section, which kicked off yesterday. The director reportedly agreed to do the show for Rs 3 lakh a day.
“I will be hosting the series. I will be talking about the movie and Raj Kapoor before and after the movies are shown in a section called ‘Aaj Bhi Raj’,” says Kunal, who has directed films like ‘Hum Tum’ and ‘Fanaa’. “We have all grown up on Raj Kapoor movies and it’s an honour to talk about him and his films.”
