Kareena Kapoor has finally bagged the title role of Mrs Khanna opposite Salman Khan in the forthcoming film Mr & Mrs Khanna. Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta and Deepika Padukone were all considered for the role at different stages. The film is being directed by debutant director Prem M. Soni
Earlier there were lot of speculations as to who will be Mrs Khanna in the film to be made by Sohail Khan Productions. A source says, "Many heroines right from Priyanka to Deepika were vying for the role."
"After Salaam-e-Ishq, speculations were rife that the film will star Priyanka and Salman. Initially, Preity Zinta was also approached for the film. But after the success of Partner, the Khans planned to cast Lara for the role. And when Om Shanti Om was released, the Khan brothers approached Deepika Padukone for the title role," adds the source.
The Khans had some informal discussions with Deepika about casting her in the film as they were quite keen to have her. "Deepika was also very eager to act with Salman but unfortunately the deal fell through as she had date problems," explains the source.
"Earlier Kareena and Salman had been paired opposite each other in Priyadarshan's Kyon Ki, but the film did not do well at the box office," the source says. Mr & Mrs Khanna is a romantic comedy and will be shot in one schedule in Australia. It is scheduled for a Diwali 2008 release.
