The recent statement by the state government confirming the setting up of IIT at Kandi village in Medak district has upset many farmers there. The farmers numbering 30 have approached the district administration and are protesting the move to take their farmlands for the IIT. They allege that they have been kept in the dark bout the proposed IIT.
The district administration is now issuing notices to them regarding acquisition of land. The farmers between them own around 350 acres of the proposed 500 acres being acquired by the government in the area. The farmers allege that the authorities re deliberately ignoring land owned by rich and influential people and are hell bent on acquiring their land at a pittance.
It is learnt that the authorities have offered to pay the farmers at the rate of Rs. 2 lakh per acre. The land prices in the area have shot up and the compensation offered is only a fraction of the current market value. The farmers are not ready to accept the compensation and are asking for alternative land in lieu of their land and not monetary compensation.
