Rajesh Khanna’s strange behaviour at a recent party had us rushing for cover...
Ex-superstar Rajesh Khanna is known for his mood swings. Yesterday at the launch of an entertainment company at a suburban five-star hotel yesterday, we saw him behaving extremely rudely with everyone around.
Initially, he seemed fine. After the formal launch, Khanna retired to a corner with a few of his friends and sat enjoying a quiet drink with them. A journalist from the electronic media approached him for an interview and he obliged.
The problem started when after some time some more electronic media reporters went up to him. When one of the reporters asked him about the ailing Simple Kapadia, his ex-wife Dimple Kapadia's sister, Khanna lost his temper and swept all the microphones off the table. Everyone was confused and didn't know what to do, but Khanna coolly settled down at his table again, almost as if nothing had happened.
After a while some more journalists walked up to him, and a couple of veteran journalists joined him at his table. Actress Preeti Jain also joined him at his table. However, when we went to wish him and introduce ourselves to him, he asked us to get out saying he was with his family and we should not disturb him. (Preeti Jain and a couple of journalists constitute family?)
One of the organisers of the function, Osho Raja, was also at the receiving end of Rajesh Khanna's inexplicable wrath. Khanna abused and insulted Raja, and even asked him to f*** off, at the top of his voice. Everyone around was left wondering what had gone wrong again, so suddenly.
One of Khanna's friends informed us that he was upset by the presence of Preeti Jain on the table. Preeti Jain had come wearing a dress with a daringly plunging neckline and Khanna apparently did not want her sharing the same table with him. The point is, even if this explanation were true, did it really justify his behaviour with the journalists and Raja?
In fact, it really upset us to see such a hugely-respected actor making such a mockery of himself in public. We preferred to leave the venue rather than watch the one-upon-a-time superstar at his worst.
