There seems to be a twist in the tale for this Kahaani. What looked like a Ghar Ghar Kii saga, has well come to its conclusion now on Star Plus.
Ekta Kapoor's marathon family drama of the Agarwal khandaan, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, has taken its final bow. And once again, it's the TRP drama that is to be blamed. October 30, 2008 would be the last episode of the show, which is on air from the past eight years now.
According to the latest data by TAM Media Research the show does not even feature in the top fourty shows. Kahaani has a rating of 2.03 and ranks 41 (week September 07 to September 13, 2008). Currently, Balaji has five shows on Star Plus - Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil, Kayamath, Kyunki Sans Bhi Kabhi Bahoo Thi, Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki and Kasturi.
"Kahaani... has been one of Ekta's longest running shows. But for sometime now, the TRPs have been very dismal. Blame it on the repetitive storyline and too many characters," says an official from Balaji Telefilms, the production house for the show.
Preparations are on to have a new show for the prime time slot of 10 pm, which is currently being held by Kahaani. Kasturi will be moved to a new time slot, while Rajan Shahi's upcoming show will replace Kahaani...
The official says that Ekta's mythological serial, too, has run into a chakravyuh. "It's a very ambitious project and she has spent a fortune. But the returns are not promising. Talks are on to end this show too."
But not everything is dismal about the 9X's mythological show. Since Ekta is in a six-month contract with the channel, she has enough time to step up her efforts to rake in the TRPs and get more commercial endorsements.
Everyone who knows Ekta, also knows that she is emotionally attached to Kahaani... and Kyunki... These were the two shows that catapulted her to the big league and made her the Queen of the Small Screen.
A few years ago, Ekta had said in an interview to Televisionpoint.com that if at all her shows are pulled off air, she will continue making them to be shown on local cable channels. And knowing her passion for her work, the Kween could just as well pull out a trick from her hat at the last moment.
The dramatic decision also comes close on the heels of Star selling out its 26 per cent equity stake in Balaji Telefilms to its promoters Ekta Kapoor just a few weeks ago. Recently, the two companies also ended their exclusivity contract. Star and Balaji had signed an exclusivity agreement in 2004 according to which Balaji could not produce shows for other television broadcasters during the time band that it showcased its soaps on Star Plus.
