Javed Jaffrey has always been known for his brilliant one-liners and as a standup comedian. The multitalented actor is all set to experiment once again with a gay character in Rahul Mahajan's debut venture. The film is based on the play Sahi Re Sahi. Javed will be essaying four characters in the film.
"The character is my own addition. It is a Punjabi gay character who is named Softee Singh and owns a beauty saloon named Delhi Full Moon Beauty Saloon. I am performing four characters in the film. The original was performed by talented Marathi actor Bharat Jadhav. I also am playing the role of a Seth who is 55 years old. The other character is that of a priest in a temple, who is also a dancer.
The fourth role is that of a salesman Dadlani, who speaks with a Hyderabadi accent," he reveals. Did Salaam Namaste work wonders for him? "Luckily for me, even though I did a cameo in Salaam Namaste, people started respecting me as a performer. But I got roles that were based on the same kind of character. I had to refuse many offers. I wouldn't have been able to do " them all and I have to be careful about my roles now that I have so many films to my credit. I can only att empt to make them differ ent," says Javed.
Has comedy become his forte now? "I love doing comedy and thrillers. I love to make people laugh. Not that all the films I am doing are comedy. There are a few serious roles like the English film titled The Forest, directed by Ashwin Kumar. I am playing an Army officer in the film. Rahul Bose is my friend. I am the prosecutor and he is the defender," he adds.
Javed is also acting in Samar Khan's Shaurya, which is Military-based; Tasvir by Nagesh Kukunoor, where he plays a Canada-based police officer and Raman Bharadwaj's Vada Pav - a satire on the political system.
His next film is Vipul Shah's Singh Is Kinng, a fun film with Anees Bazmi. "I am sure this role will be a comeback like the one in Salaam Namaste. It is based on the Sikh Mafia gang in Australia.
Sonu Sood is the leader.
It has a comic touch to it," says Javed.
That's not all. Javed has signed three films with Subhash Ghai. The first one is being directed by Manoj Tiwari and the other by Paritossh Painter.
