An Indian theatre chain and a production company have joined forces to use short films to promote new ideas, tastes and rising cinema talent. Dubbed the One Reel Movement Pyramid Saimira Theatre and Jnanabanu Visual Media will screen ten-minute one-reelers as a bonus ahead of the main feature in cinemas across the Tamil Nadu area of South India.

The first One Reel Movement screening will be on 28th December 2007, exactly 112 years on from the day the Lumiere Brothers screened their first ten minute reel to the public. Each screening in 112 cities across the region will be inaugurated by 112 Tamil writers.

The first One Reel Movement film is a ten minute short adapted from the work of eminent Tamil writer Dilip Kumar and features two characters filmed in two takes.

After being launched in the Tamil langiage, the One Reel Movement intends to launch in other Indian languages of Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi and English. All One Reel Movement films will be made with new talents, using scripts from new writers.
