We can’t remember her last hit, and its been a while since her last release. Yet, Sushmita Sen, Miss Universe-movie star-glamour queen, still manages to dazzle an audience. In town to promote an anti-ageing cream, she remains as vocal as ever. Sen spoke to our correspondent about movies, endorsements and life in general.
You’re 31. Don’t you feel a little insecure endorsing an anti-ageing cream?
The ageing process starts in your mid-20s. In my kind of profession where we face harsh light, I need it more. I’m comfortable with my age and don’t feel old at all.
How would you rate your role in Ram Gopal Verma’s Aag?
I play Durga in Ram Gopal Verma’s Aag. It will release by the year-end. It’s the role that Jaya ji (Bachchan) played in the original. It’s a silent, intense role, and was difficult to do. Jaya ji carried it off with such ease. Also, I’m wearing no make up in the film. That’s one of the biggest acting challenges I’ve faced so far.
What about other projects in the future?
The only other project I’m seriously working on is Jhansi ki Rani where I play Rani Laxmi Bai. I’m producing it under my company’s banner, Tantra. She was a real achiever, and quite a character. We’ve just ended with the film’s scripting and hopefully it should be out by 2009.
You’ve been linked with Sanjay Dutt in the past and you know him well. How did you feel about him getting 6 years in jail?
