Tanushree Dutta on playing a negative role in ‘Raqeeb’, her survival mantra and love
What makes ‘Raqeeb’ different from other films?
This is my first film with filmmaker Raj Kanwar. It’s also the first time that I’m playing a negative role. I play a character who has a twisted mind. My character has three
dimensions. The film is a dark thriller and dwells into the complexities of the human psyche.
You won much notice with the lavni in ‘Risk’.
Yes, the ‘Hichki’ lavni was loved by people in Maharashtra. I have spent many years staying in a hostel in Pune. So, I am acquainted with the culture. These days I have been performing this number in all my stage shows. I enjoy the immediate response of a live audience. It’s exciting because there are no retakes or second chances.
Are you satisfied with your career graph?
I am absolutely happy. I have been around for just a year. I have films like Priyadarshan’s ‘Dhol’ and Subhash Ghai’s ‘Good Boy Bad Boy’ coming up. In ‘Dhol’ I’m playing a girl-next-door and in the latter I’m playing a bratty teenager.
It must be tough surviving the competition.
It’s tough surviving anywhere. You have to have the survival spirit. I am born to fight. I’ll fight anything that’s worth fighting for —be it love, career or my dignity.
What’s the mantra you follow?
I am learning to better my craft and conduct myself well. It’s important to be disciplined in your food habits and lifestyle because here you have to look good and work round the clock too.
What’s the place for love in your life?
Right now I am too busy to think of love. But I appreciate honesty and integrity in a man. I like enterprising men.
