Esha Deol made her debut with a lot of promise around six years ago with Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe. However, in spite of a promising debut, Esha has not reached a position where she and her mother Hema Malini would have ideally have liked her to be. Apparently, Hema Malini called Mahesh Bhatt and requested him to make Esha a part of the Bhatt camp, which has given many newcomers a break in the industry. Bhatt immediately signed her for his film Zannat with Emraan Hashmi. The film will be directed by Kunal Deshmukh.
However, the usually forthright Mahesh Bhatt was very modest, and refused to talk about Hemaji. He said, "It was Mukesh (his brother) who thought of Esha for the role and I felt that Esha is someone who has not been given a fair chance to stand on her own in this industry. Her talent has been submerged in all these multi-star cast films. I took this opportunity and called Hemaji immediately and she was promptly expressed her willingness to work with us. We met Esha and she was on."
Mahesh recalled his early memories of Esha as a child. He said, "I remember Esha as a little girl who used to have a grim face while going to school and Hemaji always had a smile. After that I met her now at the script reading with Emraan and she obviously has no memory of meeting me as a child."
Bhatt further added, "Hemaji suggested that I should spend some time with her, talk to her and help her understand the world she is in. It was very sweet of Hemaji to entrust me with this kind of responsibility."
Bhatt finally said, "She is very gung-ho about Zannat where she plays this girl who has come to be a dancer. But because she does not make it she is working in a call center. It is about how one views all these expensive things at the shopping malls with no money in the pocket. Emraan plays a bookie in this film which has match-fixing as its backdrop."
