Actress Divya Dutta has split from her fiancé, Lt Commander Sandeep Shergill. Divya and Sandeep were engaged in Chandigarh in May 2005.
According to a source, “Divya and Sandeep developed differences and have now parted ways.”
‘It’s personal’
The reasons for the split are not known. Divya does not deny the split, but refuses to elaborate on the reasons. “It’s too personal. I do not wish to talk about this now. I will talk when I am ready,” she reasons.
After Divya’s engagement ceremony, rumours were rife that she had actually married Sandeep. But when we asked Divya about her secret shaadi, her reaction is the same.
“It has been very embarrassing explaining to people that Sandeep and I only got engaged in Chandigarh last year. Is there no difference between engagement and marriage?”
Broken-hearted
At that time, Divya had mentioned that the engagement was the outcome of their parents’ desire.
“They thought that it’s high time we gave some sanctity to our relationship,” she had declared.
But it was not meant to be. Now Divya is concentrating on her work, and nursing a broken heart.
Dutta is known for many intense, versatile and memorable performances, including Train To Pakistan, Shaheed-E-Mohabbat, Des Hogaya Pardes and Veer-Zaara. On television, she is currently doing Star Plus’ show Shanno Ki Shaadi.
Friends and lovers
The grapevine suggests that the growing proximity between Vikas Bhalla and Divya, who play the lead in Shanno Ki Shaadi, could have acted as a catalyst in Dutta’s broken engagement.
Those who have seen Vikas and Divya together say they are a very cosy twosome. Vikas Bhalla is married to Prem Chopra’s daughter Punita.
