The Kanakadurga temple at Indrakeeladri hills in Vijayawada is perhaps the only temple in the state where devotees are segregated according to their paying capacity. While those opting for free darshan are allowed darshan of the goddess from quite a distance, those purchasing a higher denomination ticket are allowed to get a closer look.
And for those who can afford to buy the 100 rupees ticket, they can go very near to the goddess, up to the sanctum sanctorum. Many devotees ask that if this is not discrimination, then what else.
Even in the biggest temple in the state, Tirupati, all the devotees are allowed darshan from the same place. The queue of paying as well as non-paying devotes is merged into a single line just before entering into the main temple premises.
