It seems as if the shadow of Chhota Shakeel is determined to haunt Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra.
The dusky beauty was called in for questioning by the Mumbai Police on Thursday after her name cropped up during the interrogation of an aide — Iqbal Attarwala — of the underworld gangster.
"We had called Priyanka Chopra for questioning recently after her name cropped up during the interrogation of an accused," Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rakesh Maria was quoted by news agency PTI as saying.
The actress was questioned in connection with shows conducted by Attarwala's company, Show Blitz Entertainment in the Middle East.
Attarwala, who was arrested on return from Dubai last month, was wanted in three cases of criminal intimidation, extortion and cheating. He used to run Show Blitz Entertainment which conducted dance shows and exhibition cricket matches in the Middle East.
Actor Sohail Khan was also questioned by the police in the Attarwala matter while there were also reports of another star Hrithik Roshan having been sent a notice to appear for questioning.
A court in Madhya Pradesh issued summons to Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra in a defamation case in April this year. The defamation case was filed by her former secretary Prakash Jajoo.
Jajoo alleged that Priyanka had leveled baseless allegations against him in an interview to a magazine. In his complaint, he said the Priyanka had described him as a ‘cheat’, ‘mad’ and ‘one who indulged in forgery’.
Earlier, in another case a court in Indore had directed Priyanka and her father Ashok Chopra to appear before the court in connection with a case filed by Jajoo.
Jajoo had alleged in his complaint under Section 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the IPC that gangster Chhota Shakeel had threatened him over phone on behalf of the Chopras for settling a financial dispute between Priyanka and him for an amount of Rs 1.37 crore..
