The state government has unveiled an ambitious project in which about 500 schools would be provided with computers. The government has realized the importance of computer education and hence it is stressing the importance of English as a medium of education in government schools too.
The new project would be implemented in a phased manner. The central government is likely to grant 500 crores for this project. In the initial phase select schools would be given computers and also provided with UPS, LAN and other facilities.
The pilot project is underway in 23 schools and in another 10 schools the project is being implemented with funding from the Indo-American Foundation. Azim Premji Foundation is also coming forward to assist in this scheme.
The project will be implemented in the BOOT (Build Own, Operate, and Transfer). So far NIT and Microsoft have imparted computer education to over 26,000 school students.
