The deafening silence by the film industry over Mayawati’s comments has left everyone surprised and also a little bit sad. Mayawati said that films stars are only fit for singing and dancing. They are not fit for politics. She aimed her statement at Chiranjeevi , as she could not manage to get him to join or support the BSP.
The film industry was expected to react to this attack. After all it was an insult to them from someone outside the industry and also outside the state. By remaining silent, the film industry showed its true colours.
The film industry is also dominated by caste and the personalities backing Balakrishna are very powerful. This community saw to it that none came forward to support Chiranjeevi on this issue. Analysts say that if Mayawathi had said something against an actor of the dominant caste, then the entire film industry would have risen up in arms against Mayawati.
