The elections to the state legislative council are being held today. What has surprised the observers is that large scale distribution of money, gifts and liquor to woo the voters.
Even in the graduates’ constituency, the voters are being wooed by contestants with cell phones, liquor, silk saris and money. In some cases, the candidates are reportedly paying up to Rs. 4,000 for a single vote.
The sale of liquor has also gone up considerably over the last few days. The contestants have lifted stock in huge quantities and stored it at secret locations for distribution amongst voters.
