Amitabh Bachchan's role as Kader Bhai in Mira Nair's adaptation of Gregory Roberts' Shantaram has become a hot topic for discussion. Not so much because of the character that he is about to portray but the look of the character.
In the novel, Kader Bhai is a mafia Don who sports a close cropped haircut that is almost like a shaven head. It was reported that Mira Nair, a stickler for details, would manage to convince the Big B to go bald. However, it has been confirmed now that the actor will not be sporting a bald pate. The actor has refused to shave off his hair to play the role of Kader Bhai. According to sources close to the actor, Bachchan does not believe in any external help in the process of acting. He can make any character believable.
This is not the first instance that the actor has refused to work on his look. Vidhu Vinod Chopra also tried unsuccessfully to convince him to grow a moustache for Eklavya. However, Bachchan did not agree and ended up sporting a fake moustache. Anyway, Mira has yet to finalise the look for Amitabh's character. They have been going back and forth on it, specially with regard to the haircut. However, the actor has made it abundantly clear to Mira that he won't go bald.
