Check out her new Thai schoolgirl look… which left Salaam-E-Ishq director Nikhil Advani flummoxed
No, the girl in the picture is not a Thai model. She's Bollywood's own Ayesha Takia , who got herself a brand new haircut and a chic new far-eastern look while shooting for De Taali in Bangkok recently.
Ayesha is visibly excited about her new hairdo. "I think this new look of mine goes well with my personality. Ever since I can remember I wanted to have this haircut and I'm so glad that it has finally materialised. I've always worn my hair straight and long, which can get boring after a while. But I couldn't experiment since I'm an actress and need to think of things like continuity in my films."
Her moment came in Bangkok where she had gone to shoot for De Taali. "Farhan ( her boyfriend) and I were shopping in a mall and he said he needed a haircut. We went to a salon there and at first we were sceptical as they had a lot of funky hairdos. But Farhan went ahead. This lady called Daai cut his hair so well, that I immediately called my mom and told her to come too. I was really tempted to experiment with my hair, but I was worried about the shot continuity," says Ayesha.
"However, I rationalised to myself that I'd never be able to try out anything different if I didn't go ahead now. And I got my hair cut exactly how I wanted," she adds.
So how is she taking to the new look? "I didn't see too many people with this haircut in Bangkok, except some school kids," she laughs. "Actually every time I smile, my eyes slant. Now with this haircut that look is accentuated. But everybody loves it, which is a bonus since I did it to please myself."
Meanwhile, Ayesha is relieved that after a phase of initial shock, director Nikhil Advani too liked the look. "I was worried about that as we still had to finish shooting a song for Nikhil's Salaam-E-Ishq, and there would be a problem in continuity. But when Nikhil saw me he said, 'Nice haircut! Use it in the song, it will look different.'"
Is she open to further experimentation? "As of now I don't want to change this haircut. I want to experiment with everything, of course - go bald, wear red curls and have dreadlocks. But I'll have to reserve all that for when I'm no longer an actress!"
