Last week’s Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week in Delhi was not without its dose of drama.
On August 30, at designer Rohit Bal’s party held at the Grand Hyatt, Arjun Rampal ended up in a fracas with freelance photographer Anand Seth while the actor was talking to some of his friends.
Rampal had earlier walked the ramp for good friend Rohit Bal along with wife and former supermodel Mehr Jessia.
All for love
While the news making the rounds is that Arjun slapped Anand not once but thrice, the photographer says it was a furious argument minus blows. According to Seth, the fight erupted over Arjun’s love interests. “Everyone knows that Arjun is Rohit’s (Bal) ex-boyfriend. Rohit wanted Arjun to stay on at his party, but Arjun was keen on leaving for another party,” says Anand.
Being a good friend of Rohit’s, Anand tried convincing Arjun to stay on and paid the price for playing mediator. “I’d rather forget what happened. It was personal and we both ended up behaving stupidly,” he says.
Escorted out
Arjun has a different version to tell. “I was in the hotel’s lobby with Rohit, Aparna Bedi and Deepak Agarwal when Anand suddenly came up to me and started pushing me around and using abusive language. I knew he was drunk so I asked him what the problem was and politely asked him to lay off. I didn’t hit him but just tapped him on the cheek once and asked him to go home. If that’s what he calls a slap I have nothing to say.
Anand is too small a person to be slapped. He was behaving like an idiot pushing me around so I pushed him back. By that time, the hotel security guys appeared and escorted him out.”
When told that Seth alleged they’d both been drunk and therefore things got out of hand, Rampal adds, “I am not a drinker. I just have an occasional glass of wine.”
‘Anand was smashed’
Rohit Bal, at whose party the incident took place, says, “Arjun got into his car and the security guys escorted Anand out as he was very high and becoming unpleasant. Though Anand hasn’t called me up directly after the incident, he told a friend of mine that he regrets the incident and is very sorry that it happened. He said he shouldn’t have been so aggressive.”
Commenting on Anand’s behaviour with Rampal, Bal says, “I think Anand didn’t want Arjun to leave and go to another party.
Arjun was going somewhere with his friends and Anand didn’t like that. Under normal circumstances, Anand would have asked him politely to stay and left it at that. But on that occasion, Anand was completely smashed and became aggressive. He grabbed Arjun and started shoving him around.”
Spiteful comments
When told about Seth’s comment about Arjun being “Rohit’s ex-boyfriend”, Bal gets irritated. “It’s very stupid of Anand to make such ridiculous statements. I have known Arjun for more than 16 years.
Arjun is like my kid brother and a family friend. There is no need for Anand to make such spiteful comments. But then, Anand has been known to have an element of instability in him. He suddenly goes crazy during his shoots too. I know him far too well, while Arjun doesn’t know him at all. Besides, Arjun is too docile a guy to hit anybody.”
Who is Anand Seth?
He is a well-known freelance photographer from Delhi who dabbles in commercial, travel and fashion photography. His pictures are vibrant and tend to have a spiritual tweak. The photographer, who shuttles between Mumbai and Delhi, has shot for Sony, Bacardi, Hero Honda and Samsung in the past.
