Mumbai, March 13. (AP): Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar says his new movie is about the clash of cultures when an Indian farmer marries a girl from London.
Kumar said the movie ``Namastey London,'' or ``Greetings London,'' was based on a true story of an Indian friend, which he described to director Vipul Shah.
Kumar stars alongside Katrina Kaif , who plays an Indian girl brought up in London and forced by her father to marry a man from India. While Kaif pines for her British boyfriend, Kumar focusses on winning over his new bride.
``The film is essentially about being true to your roots,'' he told Filmfare magazine in its March issue. ``'Namastey London' is about love, pride in one's country, and passion for life.''
Martial arts expert Kumar, 39, is known for his action hero roles and has acted in more than 70 movies over the past 15 years.
He has starred in several comic roles recently including ``Phir Hera Pheri'' (Some More Hustling) and ``Garam Masala'' (Hot Spice).
Model-turned Bollywood actress Kaif has a British mother and an Indian father. She made her debut in Hindi-language movies four years ago and has also starred in Telugu and Tamil-language movies in southern India.
Her latest hit releases were ``Humko Deewana Kar Gaye'' (You Drove Me Crazy) and ``Sarkar'' (Government).
