Chhabria to play bar dancer Tarannum in Shootout at Lokhandwala
A few months back when Aarti Chhabria was reading about Tarannum Khan's life in a newspaper, little did she know that she would one day portray the life story of this bar dancer on screen. "I was surprised when director Sanjay Gupta asked me to play Tarannum in his film Shootout at Lokhandwala. It's a challenging role because the incident is still fresh in public memory. I was certainly nervous initially, but I must give credit to Apoorva for extracting a good performance from me," says Aarti
Aarti is following the script blindly to ensure a faithful portrayal Tarannum's character. However, the actress has done ample research on the bar dancer's life. "I know a lot about Tarannum, thanks to the media. I have read a lot about her in newspapers and have been fascinated by her character. She works in a bar, and commands respect from the men around her. She wears salwar-kameez, and always covers her head with a dupatta," she says. Aarti , however, refuses to go into the details of the character, as it appears in the film.
She candidly admits that the film is about Sanjay Dutt and Vivek Oberoi , who play the role of ACP AA Khan and Maya Dolas respectively. "I am glad that after waiting for so long, I am getting offers from good banners. Working with Vivek and Sanjay was a pleasant experience. They were a great support for me on the sets," she admits.
The actress says that she has learnt from her past experiences in the industry. "I have made mistakes in life. But I am yet young and can start afresh. I am sure that things will become better and I will be able to leave my mark as an actor in this industry," she says.
Bar dancer Tarannum Khan hit the headlines following an income-tax raid on a bar that revealed large cash and property investment details. Tarannum was arrested after she revealed in a television interview that she indulged in betting. She was also under the police scanner for her alleged proximity to some Sri Lankan cricketers.
