After rightfully earning the tag for best director with Tarre Zameen Par, Aamir Khan doesn’t miss an opportunity to encourage young filmmakers.
The actor turned up at the closing ceremony of Sixteen:Nine, a short film festival, attended by students from over 150 colleges from across the world. Recounting lines from his theatre days, Aamir kept his audience in splits all evening.
Even as he honoured young filmmakers for their award winning short films, Aamir took the opportunity to share his own thoughts on filmmaking with his impressionable young audience.
“I personally believe there is no rule to cinema and storytelling. I would encourage students to follow their hearts and instincts,” Aamir said.
Having himself made short films in his student years, Aamir had much wisdom to share with the students, and spoke to them about the growing popularity of the format these days.
“With mobile phones coming in now you will have short films only for mobile phones, that’s a new category which is emerging,” Aamir said.
From the smiling faces and inspired questions that were thrown around, it was evident the students relished the chance to spend time with Aamir, a gesture he reciprocated wholeheartedly.
