Eminent music director A.R. Rahman was chosen for the Swaralaya-Kairali-Jesudas award for the year, Swaralaya organisers said here on Tuesday.

The award carries a cash prize of one lakh rupees, memento and citation.

The award for all-round contribution to Malayalam film music was given to K. Raghavan , who would be honoured with a cash prize of Rs 75,000, memento and citation.

The awards were announced by jury members K.P. Udayabhanu, B. Arundhathi, Poovachal Khader and Rose Mary.

The award was being given to a music director for the first time after offering the honour to singers for the past five years, Swaralaya Chairman Rajmohan said.
