A petition was filed on Saturday in a local court seeking a directive to the Madhya Pradesh government to lift the suspension on screening of the Ashutosh Gowariker directed film 'Jodhaa-Akbar'.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Ajay Shrivastava transferred the petition filed by Rakesh Singh before Judicial Magistrate first class Pradeep Soni and fixed the next hearing into the case on February 25.

In his petition, Singh alleged the government move to suspend screening of the movie violated fundamental rights.

The move also violates articles 300 and 301 of the Constitution that provides for the right to any citizen to carry out his business, the petitioner alleged.

Singh sought a directive from the court to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Secretary Commercial Tax to allow screening of the movie, which he claimed, did not have any derogatory material against any community.

The state government suspended the screening of the movie on February 22 after demonstrations against it by members of the Rajput community.
