The makers of Kaafila may have had a grand plan of releasing the film in both India and Pakistan together this week, but at the last moment, the Pakistan censor board has refused to clear the film. The reason -- the Pakistan military interfered on a special request of the Information & Broadcast Ministry and after viewing the film, some members of the Pakistani military deemed the film anti-national and refused to release it.
Says the director of the film, Amitoj Mann, "There was a lobby that didn't want the film to release in Pakistan. But let me clarify that this film is not anti-Pakistan."
Mann also alleges that the lobbies at work were some members of the indigenous Pakistani film industry, coupled with the mighty piracy lobby of Pakistan.
According to the director, while the film was lying in theatres ready for release, pirated DVDs of Kaafila were being sold at dirt cheap rates in every corner shop of Pakistan.
Says the producer of the film, Tony Sandhu, "All in all, I have lost at least Rs 4 crore and the extra 22 prints of the film have cost me another Rs 22 lakh."
Kaafila
Sunny Deol's earlier movies like Gadar and Maa Tujhe Salam have been perceived in Pakistan as anti-national.
If Kaafila had been cleared by the Pakistani censor board, it would have been the second film this year after Awarapan to have been released in the neighbouring nation.
