The 52nd Annual Filmfare Awards were held in Mumbai on Saturday evening (February 24). This time round the awards ceremony has had a ‘makeover’, with the event being a closed-door black-tie one.

Hrithik beat SRK to it

2006 proved that the new superstar on the block was Hrithik Roshan. And so it came as no surprise when Hrithik won this year's Filmfare award for Best Male Actor in a leading role for ‘Dhoom 2’. Hrithik, who was also nominated for his performance in ‘Krrish’, underplayed his contribution as expected.

“It feels great, its Filmfare, its an acknowledgment of all the hard work that we all put in as a team in Dhoom 2, and I stand here as a symbol of that team work,” said Hrithik.

Hrithik beat competitors like Aamir Khan , Sanjay Dutt and Shahrukh Khan. SRK, who was nominated for ‘Don’ and ‘Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna’and is well-known for his love for awards, didn't seem too concerned about losing out.

“No, no, no. I am never disappointed, see my logic is very simple. If I get it the awards look good, if I don't get it they don't know what they're doing...nah (laughs). I had a great time, I think (Hrithik) deserved it completely. I'm ok, as long as I am entertaining people,” said SRK.

Kareena wows critics again

Kajol with comeback film ‘Fanaa’, walked away with Best Female Actor female in a leading role. On the other hand, Kareena Kapoor's Desdemona turn in ‘Omkara’ got her the Critic's Award for Best Actress.

“In the critic's category, it’s my third award. So I think I'm always on their good side. And I think Omkara was a film which deep down in my heart, I always hoped I would get acknowledged for, because the whole team worked really hard to make a different kind of a film,” gushed Kareena.

Here’s to the team!

Aamir Khan, who never turns up at awards ceremonies got the Critics’ Award for Best Actor for ‘Rang De Basanti’. The film bagged Best Film at the awards, also winning the Best Music and Best Director.

“It goes out to show it was a tremendous teamwork. ‘Rang de’ is not just an individual effort. And so when I accept the award of the best director, it is on behalf of my entire team,” said ‘Rang de’ director Rakeysh Mehra.

It was also celebration time for the Bachchan family as Jaya Bachchan got a Lifetime Achievement award and Abhishek, the Best Supporting Actor for his ‘ideal husband’ turn in ‘Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna’.

“I think Filmfare is making a habit of making me best supporting actor - third year in a row, not bad,” he said, adding “It feels wonderful to be recognised for your work, but I think you have to see the larger picture and realise why you are actually holding this beautiful lady - and that's because of a wonderful team, and a wonderful director.”

Coming into her own: Konkona

Konkona Sen Sharma was the expected winner for Best Supporting Female Actor female for ‘Omkara’.

“It feels great, I've actually grown up seeing some of these awards at home, for my mum (Aparna Sen), and I'm really happy to have one of my own now,” said Konkana.

In case you are wondering what happened to ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ - the film won Filmfare awards for Best Story and Best Dialogue. So all in all, it was a productive evening for all - even those who didn't get any award would have come back with memories of an evening well spent!
