The Sion police on Tuesday questioned Kanta Laga singer Shefali Zariwala, who has been accused by a programme organiser of cheating him out of Rs 3 lakh. Shefali and her father were questioned for nearly two hours before being allowed to leave.
Shefali, in her police statement, said the allegations were rubbish as she did not know the organiser, Umeshchandra Kori. Police officer V Iddekar said that Kori filed a private complaint alleging that he had organised a show in Lucknow, on February 14, 2003, when Shefali was supposed to dance to the ‘Kanta Laga’ number.
Kori said he spent a lot on ads and he was to pay Shefali Rs 3 lakh, of which she had accepted Rs 1 lakh in advance at Hotel Ramdeo, Sion, on Dec 26, 2002, in the presence of her father.
Kori said he had arranged two first-class train tickets for Shefali and her father to go to Lucknow, but she never went. Later, he was forced to refund money, resulting in a loss of about Rs 35 lakh for him.
