Parzania has been the most difficult film I have come across,” says actor-director Naseeruddin Shah.

Naseeruddin reveals that though the release of Parzania may have taken time, the subject is very close to his heart.

When asked why he didn’t opt for directing this movie, Naseer says, “You need to have guts to be able to put forth such incidents on reel, and frankly speaking, I could not have done justice to this script.”

Appreciating the director of the film, Naseer says, “Hats off to the director Rahul Dholakia, who was determined to put forth the actual facts on screen, and he has been successful in recreating the incident.”

The actor has once again played a Parsi character. Earlier, he played the role of a Parsi in films like Anant Yatra, Being Cyrus, Pestonjee and Company.

When we questioned him as to why he usually ended up doing such roles, Naseer responds, “I think I have inherited Parsi looks. In fact, all the Parsis I know call me ‘Nasser’, and they are also convinced that I am a hardcore Parsi”.

He further explains his Parsi connections. “I had a lot of Parsi friends during my childhood. Amongst my films, Anant Yatra sketched the role of a typical Parsi. Sadly, the film didn’t do well, and not many people have seen it.”

About Parzania, he says, “This is a sensitive story about love lost amidst violence. Anyone can experience that pain, therefore the reality of the story has a very different appeal.”

He has done more art films and his latest commercial film is Krrish. so, what difference does he find between them? “You get lots of money for a commercial movie, that’s the difference,” he says.
