Greta Garbo, the enigmatic Hollywood actor had once famously said ‘I want to be alone.’ Au contraire, Urmila Matondkar isn’t proclaiming any such thing. She is single, not to mention sexy and bewitching, and looking for real love.

Nowadays, her single status is compelling the actor to identify with the world’s most famous singleton, albeit a work of fiction - Bridget Jones. BT caught the actor in a wild and whacky mood in which she displayed her ready wit and easy candour.

“I think that to a large extent, single is rocking but I am so single that I feel like an Indian version of Bridget Jones, only many pounds lighter, sans a Hugh Grant!” exclaims Urmila.

“But after a while, it can also get on your nerves as it’s very uncool to be single.

I think the worst thing is when your friends turn around and start talking like those ‘nothing to do aunties’ and say things like ‘get married now’ and you’re like ‘where’s the guy?’

Also when people keep giving you those furtive ‘poor thing’ kind of glances is when you most wish you had someone in your life.

Something is seriously wrong with Mumbai and the social workers should do something about the men in the city,” she laughs.

Is she implying that the men in Mumbai are pathetic or is she very demanding? “I am not saying that men in Mumbai are pathetic (repeats the sentence three times).

I’m only saying that I don’t seem to find the right man. Maybe I am going to the wrong places.

Being with someone makes you happier and more content as a human being and takes your personality to greater heights and viceversa.

And I don’t think that’s being too demanding,” she muses.

What kind of a man does she want to fall in love with? “I want to fall in love with a very, very normal guy, who is intelligent, smart, funny and passably good looking, but all the men around are either married, attached or gay, which is fine but nothing is happening in my life thanks to that!” she says.

So how does she intend to change her single status? “I think the only thing left for me to do to find the right man is to dress up in a pink bunny costume like in the Bridget Jones film and go to a party!” she laughs.

“No, seriously… Men in this city and country tend to get very intimidated by successful women and they certainly don’t seem to be thinking right.

A man who does not approach me because of my screen image or is intimidated by me is probably not being worth approached by.

I also have a very no-nonsense and unapproachable demeanour which is why my friends call me the Great Wall of China, as far as accessibility goes, and that’s not helping either,” she reflects.

Well, as she rightly said, “relationships need time and commitment,” so... does she have the time?
